English RequirementsEnglish language proficiency is necessary for registration in Australia through the Medical Board of Australia. The Medical Board's Registration Standards, including the English Language Skills Registration Standard, can be viewed here. International English Language Testing System (IELTS)The IELTS test consists of separate Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking sections. It is administered by IELTS Australia and The British Council at over 500 centres worldwide. To meet the English Language Proficiency Requirements candidates are required to obtain a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components of the Academic module. All enquiries about IELTS should be addressed to: IELTS Australia Occupational English Test (OET)The OET is conducted in four parts, consisting of separate Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking sections. The OET is held up to 10 times per year and in over 40 locations around the world. To meet the English Language Skills Registration Standard candidates are required to pass the OET for medical practitioners with grades of A or B in each of the four components.
